Discuss a project— What we do
A micro-concrete applicator built by craftsmen, not a franchise.
Micro-concrete is everywhere in Los Angeles design right now — and most of it is being installed badly. The systems are unforgiving: wrong primer, wrong mesh, wrong sealer or a rushed cure and it cracks, stains or delaminates within a year. Driftwood is a small team of finish carpenters and concrete craftsmen who treat micro-concrete the way it should be treated — slowly, by hand, in controlled conditions.
We work with leading systems (Microbase, Topciment, Ideal Work, Microtopping) and have applied micro-concrete on residential floors, retail counters, hotel bathrooms, gym reception desks and one-off sculptural furniture. Recent LA work includes the bespoke micro-concrete pieces designed by Luis Fernandez for Erik Lindstrom Rugs in the Hollywood Film District, and the polished concrete bar and counter at The Yard Gym in Culver City.
If you're a designer, architect or homeowner in Los Angeles looking for a micro-concrete contractor who actually understands the material — and who can also build the cabinetry, plumbing rough-in and lighting it sits inside — we should talk.

— Frequently asked
Questions.
What is micro-concrete?
+
Micro-concrete (also called micro-cement) is a 2–3mm hand-troweled cementitious coating applied over existing substrates — concrete, tile, plywood, drywall — to create a seamless, joint-free surface in any color or finish. It's a finish material, not structural.
How much does micro-concrete cost in Los Angeles?
+
Micro-concrete in LA typically runs $35–$75 per square foot installed, depending on substrate prep, color, finish, and access. Wet areas (showers, tubs) and vertical surfaces cost more due to additional waterproofing and labor.
Can micro-concrete be used in showers?
+
Yes — when installed with the correct waterproofing membrane, fiberglass mesh and a high-quality sealer. We use full waterproof systems certified for wet-area use, never standard floor product brushed with extra sealer.
Does micro-concrete crack?
+
Properly installed over a stable substrate with the right primer and mesh, micro-concrete should not crack from normal use. Most failures we're called to fix are due to skipped prep, structural movement or the wrong system used outdoors.
How is it maintained?
+
Day-to-day care is just pH-neutral cleaner. Sealers should be refreshed every 2–4 years on floors and 5–7 years on walls. We can re-seal any micro-concrete surface in LA, even if we didn't install it.
